Daniel and the Lions

Join us and Daniel as exiles in Babylon.  We will accompany Daniel as Babylonians invade his home, capture him, bring him to live in a foreign court, and force him to accept new customs and a new life.  We will watch as he finds favor with the king and encounters jealous rivals, and as they challenge and outlaw his devotion to GOD.  We will enter the lions’ den with him and learn from his trust in GOD’s power and protection.

Theme:  Fear
Bible Point:  GOD wants us to trust HIM when we are afraid.

 Workshops

  • Cooking.  Join us for veggies and water as we mimic one of the many ways Daniel was loyal to GOD: through his diet.  As we prepare and eat our snack, we will tell the story of Daniel and talk about how much Daniel risked to be loyal to GOD.  We will talk about ways in which we can show our loyalty and what we risk to do so.
  • Multimedia.  Sit back, relax, and enjoy watching Where's God When I'm S-scared?  Bob the Tomato, Larry the Cucumber, and the rest of the Veggie Tales gang give us their take on the story of Daniel and the lions, and teach us that GOD is bigger than our fears.
  • Puppets.  You provide the endings as we act out present day stories about being in danger and making choices that are frightening.  We will talk about the things we are afraid of, choosing between two or more scary options, and what we pray for when we are afraid.
  • Science. Visit our science and nature stations, and picture what Daniel faced in the lions' den.  We will learn a lot of facts about lions, measure their size, weigh how much they eat, listen to their roar, and imagine we are spending the night alone in the dark with them.  We will wonder what Daniel did all night and talk about how GOD's presence helps us to face our fears.
  • Storytelling. Our storyteller, a fictional doorman, will welcome you to the palace of King Darius.  He will tell us of the king's sleepless night, his fears for Daniels safety, and his joy at finding Daniel alive in the morning.  We will explore what it is like to be afraid for someone else by looking at King Darius.  We will talk about how we can sometimes feel powerless to help someone who is in trouble and how GOD is also with us when we are afraid for someone else.  We will look at the importance of praying for others.
